Come on dude you are keeping THIS idiot in suspense... how'd it go?
Haha. After all the driving I did this week, I haven't been Interneting much.
It went well. It took about 4 hours longer to get the boat de-rigged and ready to travel but we just sacrificed sleep. The boat is in pretty good shape barring the 7 years of barnacles on the bottom. That will be the hardest part. I had to wire in new lights on the trailer he had as someone had cut the line. Not fun but I knew I had good working lights.
The motor was hard to start but it was cold and there wasn't any visible choke on the outboard. The impeller either quit or jammed halfway to the ramp but I was able to limp it back. One more thing to address.
The drive home was fine. We just inflated the trailer tires and greased the zerts on the bearings. The bearings never got very warm so good there. The 30 year old tires lasted just fine. I'll replace them now
Oh, and I had to buy the trailer but it was very reasonable. Under $800 for a boat/trailer is still a smashing deal. The motor was bought this spring (used) for $800 so I can break even pretty quickly. Anyone need a 9.9HP Yamaha 4-stroke with new impeller?
So the trailer is in great shape and is mostly galvanized, including the wheels. New wiring and lights and a jack up front are all it needs.
The boat is a bit more work. There is some rebedding of hardware needed (again, 30+ year old boat) with some possible core to fix but not too bad. New bottom needed but if I sell it to a racer, I may be able to not put on new paint. All new lines and some hardware upgrades are needed. And of course new sails as the current ones are "hobie cat" sails with fancy colors and sewed in battens.
All in all I have a fun project that will eat time and money. Ahhh, but that is what boats are about, eh?
