I guess this question is for Dave..... but I'd appreciate some other commentary also.

I'm shopping for rope. I check out other sites and the price/ft is easily displayed right next to my selection..... I give SBO store a look see and for the life of me could not find your price for a length of any kind of cordage. price per foot. total price. spool price. Nothing
What's up with that? Even if there is an explanation... it's too hard. Frustrated, I move on.

I also noticed that your drop down menu often overtuns the bottom of the page, making it inconvenient to use.

With all the changes made in this site's format the last year why is the store so awkward to navigate for such simple information?

Well, not everyone sells everything the same way and we believe that long lists of line with a price per foot/spool isn't the best way to sell line. If you know exactly what you want and you're interested in unfinished line, the per-foot method is perfect.

But if you don't know what you need or you want a halyard (as opposed to a length of rope), I think our method is better. What matters is the final cost, including whips, splices, and shackles. The line's price per foot is just one component.

I understand that this doesn't work for everyone. Like I said, if you know exactly what you want there are easier ways to buy it. But for many folks who use this site that's not the case, and, I'm happy to say, our cordage sales seem to support our theory.

BTW, it was a lot of fun to talk with Patrick after all these years. I'm not normally on the phones except in the busy season but it's a hoot to hear voices of people I've know for a long time.

Phil..... All I WAS looking for is a number of lengths of line to build two tapered halyards and another set of sheets. So what you are saying is that the SBO online store does not sell cordage (or unfinished line), you just sell running rigging to people who don't know what they want. Okay, I understand, now.

I just had two halyards made from SBO. I wasn't 100% sure how long they would need to be to run back to the cockpit and everything. I found the SBO site very user friendly by selecting what the halyard was for and the boat model, then selecting if I wanted a shackle and whip etc. The workmanship was extremely quality and I found the price reasonable, in fact I thought that it was better than if I would have had them done somewhere else.
