When I was raising my mast on my O'Day 25 at my old marina last year, one of the guys helping me mentioned that he only puts one of the pins in for the mast step when it is up. I can't remember whether it was the front or rear. I also don't know what the logic (or lack of it) behind it was. Do you recommend one pin or two and front or rear? sPk

Two pins

Just had to step the mast on my 1975 O'Day 25. It has tabernacle (I think that is what is called) with two pins. The foreword pin is removed to allow mast to tip back. The back pin can be pulled when the mast is down to remove the mast. On my boat, I also removed the boom vang connection point on the mast as it pressed into the cabin top when the mast was lowered.

why are we having this conversation...

It's like asking do you want all of your lugnuts put back on your wheels. It's two pins, one forward and one to the rear. Why would you not want both? I don't get it.
