Go to Dana Point

My advice is to go to Dana Pt instead as there are no overnight stops that I'm aware of. It's only about 20 n.mi. from Oceanside; you can anchor in the west(or east; but west is better) basin for free for about 72 h, I believe. It's safe, flat, very pretty, and there are a few things to do there that might keep you occupied for a couple of days. Also, it's downhill home so you get the "rough stuff" over with in the beginning instead of having it "hanging out there" for the entire trip. The trip to Mission Bay is about 30 n.mi. and uphill coming home. You're likely talking 7 h getting back (if motoring; otherwise more) even if it is nice, in your boat. You can go to Mission Bay later when her sea-legs are better developed. BEO

I too would recommend Dana Point

There is nothing south of O'Side except Mission Bay. Coast line to the north is a little friendlier. Although Mission Bay and Dana point are about about the same distance and time from O'side. If you head south, you have to contend with the North Westerlies coming back. If you go to Dana Point, you can catch the wind on the return trip. I think there is more to do in Dana Point with the great shopping and staying overnight. That is a run I would do if my boat was in O'side. But it is in Chula Vista while I wait for my O'side slip. I love it up here (O'side). I belong to the Santa Margarita Yacht Club on Camp Pendleton and visit O'side Harbor every Sunday to watch the boats come and go. Enjoy, and make your first journey to Dana Point. Give them a call to reserve a guess slip for the night. You'll totally enjoy it.
