Keep your hands off the prop
when you cut the line. I had a similar experience a few years ago. There was some built up energy in the transmission/shaft that let loose when I cut and pulled the line off. The prop took a spin and the tramsmission made a loud bang when all of the pressure was released. I don't understand how all those pots can be allowed right smack in the middle of the channel. It makes me nervous to go through the channel at night, yet boats do it every night?
