As the new owner of a Catalina 310, I am looking for opinions on which manuals are a MUST HAVE for keeping on board (e.g.: cruising guides, navigation guides, etc.). Your personal advice/experience is appreciated!
I think the first "must have" on most anyone's list would be either Chapman's or the Annapolis Book of Seamanship. They both cover just about everything you'll need to know about. A good emergency medicine book would be a good addition as would a basic cookbook (no kidding!). "Shipshape" by Ferenc Mate is an excellent maintenance book. Local Almanacs are really required for extended (or not so extended) cruising (ie: Reed's). You'll need charts of the areas you plan to cruise. Ask around to see which cruising guides are the best for the area you want to go. Here on the West Coast, nothing beats Charlie's Charts.
