We are planning to sail from the Coan River in Virginia, across the Chesapeake bay to the town of Onancock on the Delmarva Peninsula. We will set sail Friday Oct 21 and return Monday Oct 24. Estimated time is 8 hours at 5 knots one way.

Any words of wisdom from the group?

After that we go on the hard for preventative maintenance and bottom painting.

I will post pictures of the passage. Looking forward to it as we will be rafting up once we arrive.

Nice town to visit. The town is a good ways upriver and would be a challenging sail or a long motor, but it's deep and well marked. Watch for commercial gravel barges on the way in, and I'd avoid the commercial wharf area to the left of the town dock as you come in. You can either tie up at the town dock, or anchor in the basin just before the dock. Suggest you check one of the cruising guides for details.

KD3P - looks like we are neighbours. Are you a memeber of the NNSA? My boat is slipped down Dr's Point Road. Where are you slipped?

We are on Mill Creek just above the packing house, a few yards past the mark..for the creek turn from the Yeocomico where Krentz is....

Recently sold the 42, to downsize to a single head, good berth 34'-36', Gemini, Sabre or 36CC are the front runners so far.

It is worth a visit, but get there early because the shops close before 5 pm. We sailed there Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and were very disappointed that we could not visit the shops. EdH

Onancock VA Sail

Well, we did our sail to Onancock and the weather was perfect. We had a change of plans at the last moment and ended up sailing from Lewesetta to Reedville and rafted up in Cockrel Creek, dingied into town and ate at Tommy's. Geat anchorage and meal. Saturday morning we headed out to Onancock and had about a 6 hour sail, we took a slip there and wanted to eat at the Blarney Stone Pub, guess what - it was closed for repairs and would not reopen till Tuesday. We at at Mallards at the Wharf and felt the meal was medoiocre. Sunday morning we set sail at 8:30am and arrived back home in Lewesetta 8.5 hours later. It was a great weekend for weather, wind and fun. Some pictures attached. Photos taken by Mike Geissisnger.
