It's kind of like the Niagara emblem ("N" Flag) but with an extra row of checkers on the end instead of the bottom.
How about Winner Sergeant?

Could it be that this boat was once used by a Regatta judge or coordinator?

In some fleets, the local district champion gets to put a chevron on his sail each year. Star Class fleets often do it. Perhaps this guy won several times before selling the boat? What kind of boat and where is it?

TThe mainsail is on an1983 Islands 17 an east coast builder. The original mast was replace with a taller 23' 7" hobie cat mast. I've owned the boat several years and a fellow at the dock one day mentioned the "championship" marks on the mainsail. It's a centerboard dingy and just alot of fun to sail usually singlehandedly.
Richard Petty owned? Is that a joke?
Thanks all.
