On-board stove

I have recently purchased an '84 222. It has a compartment for an on-board stove. However, I don't know what type of fuel base would be appropriate,ie: propane,solid fuel, sterno?Can someone point me in the right direction?

I have butane

Inherited from previous owners, we haven't used it yet but I did lgith it off to ensure it works, and it looks like it would be fine. My Dad uses an alcohol stove on his S2 6.9, it works great, I have used it. Only drawback is the container of alcohol fuel. I have seen a Coleman stove, operates on propane (3lb throw-away cylinders) that has one burner and a small grill, looks like it would be perfect. Just put some thought into where you will store the fuel, my advice would be outside in the lazarette.

Todd -I would get a single burner Origo alcohol stove. Works like a giant sterno can but you can control the heat level. I have one - double burner on my boat - and have had good experience with it. It is not the dreaded pressurized alcohol stove some will warn you off. If you do get Origo, invest in the little arms that will hold pots in place in a rolly anchorage - definitely worth the money.Justin - O'day Owners' Web

I also have a 222 and I bought a single burner Origo on EBay for less than $100 with shipping. Spent a week on the boat a couple of weeks ago and it worked great! Plus, with alcohol, you don't have to worry about the build up of fumes in the bilge since alcohol is lighter than air. Propane and both heavier than air and thus a potential problem if you have a leak. Enjoy the 222. It's a great boat!

Bought Origo alcohol stove last year-works great-easy to light -no flare ups.Alcohol is lighter than air so no danger of collecting in bilge like propane
