I was out sailing yesterday and had stopped at Still Pond (Chesapeake) for the night and no sooner was I anchored (I think they actually waited to see if I was going to stay), the swarms of those irritating biting black flies started on me.
Honest to God I have NEVER seen them so bad. I bet I killed 3000 of them with my fly swatter. It was like a scene from a horror film
. It got so bad I had to leave around 3 and head back to the marina. Does anyone know of anything that THEY HAVE USED, or DONE that gets rid of these damn things? I heard all the rumors about dryer sheets and OFF spray (which I used and I swear it seemed like I was spraying food on my legs for them). OFF spray made it worse! I just about jumped overboard at 6 knots just to escape the misery. I am new to the Chessie this year and I don't think I can do it again next year because of these black flies (the black mucky crap that gets all over your anchor chain and anchor and makes a mess of everything is another story)...
