OMC Zephyr Anodes ?

How often do you replace the anodes on your saildrives ? I am about to haul out my 25 and figure I should change the zincs while I'm at it. BTW, this is a fresh water boat, so do you all recommend zinc or magnesium or something else ? And, where do you get them ? Rudy doesn't have them and I haven't located a source. There are 3 I think, 2 on lower unit and 1 in the water pump. TIA.

Ed, you are looking for pitting&etching of the anodes. To my knowledge this shows the "age" or need to replace. You are correct there are 3 on the saildrive mtr. My suggestion is to replace the internal 1, during waterpump service. this should be about the right interval, if thatis proper use of engine regarding supply of coolant water is normal. Otherwise, it would be also areasonable to suggest that the external(2) should wear-out about the same interval as the (1)concealed at the intermediate flange. If the visable (2) are worn so also should be the internal (1). Ed I am learning about this motor just now so I hope this info helps.
