I was on the OMC web site searching for parts and I noticed that they went Chapter 11 in December. Has anyone encountered problems in getting parts? Any word on their future? My engine is 18 years old and I am now wondering if I should look for a newer one.

I have heard that they have been purchased!

Last thing I heard that they have been purchased by Bombardier. This may take some time to get sorted out, but I'd imagine that this issue should be resolved soon.

Where have you guys been???? :)

OMC has been gone for several months! Genmar bought most of the OMC divisions, then spun some of 'em off (for instance, they sold Chris Craft to a UK boatbuilder). Any 18 yr old engine--or any other piece of equipment that old--can be hard to find parts for, but you won't have any more trouble getting 'em for an OMC engine than any other. Any parts--branded or generic--that were available before OMC went under will continue to be available.

Bombardier purchased the assets of the Johnson and Evinrude companies. They have agreed to continue providing some warranty work. The large engines produced in the last year that have been catching on fire supposedly have the main emphasis of the warranty work.

And they are not likely to end up in Chapter 11 anytime soon! Besides the news article (in the related site link) check out their home page http://www.bombardier.com/index.jsp It is a flash site.....
