I am looking for a replacement fuel pump for my Evinrude 9.9hp 2001 but it appears that it is no longer available. I am told that this motor was essentially built by Suzuki. Is it possible that the Suzuki fuel pump for that year would fit on my outboard? I found a picture at... http://www.brownspoint.com/store/pc/BP_AP_AssemblyDetail.asp?ID=2713 for the Suzuki pump. the mechanical actuation seems to look the same however the mounting looks quite different.

Has anyone ever tried this?

What is your model number and is it 2 or 4 stroke. A quick search on the web seems to indicate both Oem and after market pumps are available as well as rebuild kits.

It is a 4 stroke model # e10tvx4sic. The "repair kit" is available but does not include the essential check valves that have come undone. I believe that OMC part number for the pump is # 0435352. I have searched the Internet and spoke to several marinas who all tell me that the pumps are no longer available. I found one place willing to rebuild. Apparently the check valves in the pump have been widely problematic.

Haven't been able to find a bolt on replacement - looks like it, and a few similar pumps, were on several models of evinrudes. Suprised that someone hasn't done an aftermarket one of some sort. I did find a few mentions of people replacing them with pulse type fuel pumps. May also be able to do it with some sort of electric pump but both methods would require work beyond my knowledge level!

Here is the Bombardier catalog page for the pump..

Looks like the check valves are not listed except with the pump assembly, which is unavailable, as you said. I would guess that pulling the fuel fittings off (part #7) and parts 2,3,4, would get you access to the check valves themselves..

If ya can't clean/rebuild the check valves, a small electric might be the best solution.
Something like this..

I did disassemble the pump and re-assemble the check valve, one of which had come apart but from everything I read on the Internet the valves are likely to come apart again so as a minimum I want to have a spare pump on hand.

The electric pump option is compelling. I seem to recall that the current pump pressure is rated at 1 psi, would using a 3 psi pump lead to problems?

The other thing I thought about was to remove the internal check valve and install a small external check valve.

I think you were on the right track with your initial post. Why not take the existing pump to a Suzuki marine dealer and compare with the Suzuki pump? It looks like they used the same Suzuki pump until around 2005.
There appears to be a Suzuki marine dealer in gateaneau and on in orleans.
