I just discovered I could log on to the msnbc site with my AT&T U-verse credentials and watch live events (which is the only reason I would ever go to msnbc, but that's another story). It so happens there was some live sailing going on, women's round robin something or other- plus a whole line up of other events - qualifying rounds I believe. I seems the US is middle of the pack in most standings. While I'm not that knowledgeable in the subtleties of the sport it sure is fun to watch.

I was just watching the ladies in the Elliot's (three on board) .. Really a treat to watch such outstanding boat handling.. One of the races between the Russians and the USA in particular was great even though the USA lost.. Watching their starting line maneuvers is humbling for me !

You gave them your internet/cable tv account loggin and password information! This does not sound like A good Idea......:eek:

I alway make sure when I am logging on to any of my accounts I am actually on there secure web site. I never share this information with another company or web site.
If I was to log on to this site for me it would have to be a seperate account. Or be made availble to me thru my internet/cable provider were I could then be safely logged in.
This set up is like an information gathering "fishing" center and has you giving out to whomever???? your service provider and gives them access to all your account information. Red Flags to me...

I've read it's legit, not a phishing scheme or anything like that. The rationale behind requiring the cable/telco login is to verify that you're a paying NBC/msnbc/cnbc subscriber. Apparently because of NBC's affiliation with Comcast they're looking to make sure they're not just giving away the content to "cord cutters". Having said that, the guidance to be careful about what sites ask for your credentials is generally good to remember.

I did see some of the coverage of the Star class on Saturday morning. Looked pretty good. There was no commentary, but other than that it was quite good to watch with many camera angles and even graphics.

Well, thanks for your concern, but it is MSNBC after all, oh wait...

Anyhow - I may have been watching the same event as Claude, 3 women on board sailing the heck out of small boats.

One thing I did not understand was this - they were on a mostly downwind, port tack I believe, two boats neck and neck, 10 feet apart, about to gybe, the windward boat started to oscillate, apparently on purpose, moving the tiller back and forth quickly - I was thinking what a great way to lose speed - but apparently it was in preparation for the gybe...the downwind boat kept its course until the gybe. I'm not sure what the purpose of that maneuver was.

I've been watching via streaming from the NBC Olympic website - excellent viewing! Don't miss the commentator so much Takes a while to tune in but the starts are great and I like that Elliot 6 too I had to tell NBC who my TV proveyer is but I don't think I had to log in These are still preliminary rounds - the medal rounds begin Sunday so if you're interested get cracking

As one of those "cord cutters", I am unable to watch any of the Olympics at all. Well fsck you NBC, you don't get to make a penny off of advertising on my behalf...

Why is it so hard for these companies to realize that if they put their content online and they would find that they actually get MORE viewers (and more viewers = more money from advertisers)!

Msnbc...

Was able to log onto their Olympic sailing coverage this afternoon after reading about it on this forum. Watched the first 470 men's race won by a wide margin by the Austrians, of all teams! Brits were 2nd. USA was 17th.

Only log-in requirement was to indicate my current video provider (Comcast). There's a schedule pull-down by boat type, and men's or women's events. After that it was just click and pick. Easy!
