I am thinking about wintering Liberty in Olympia this year. Any recommendations or places to avoid on the marina's in the area, a yard to install a generator and genoa car tracks and maybe a bottom paint?

Zittels

I had my boat down at Zittels for a few months last winter. The marina is cheap which is nice but they only have a half submerged log for a breakwater and depending on where they put you the slips can be real tricky to get in and out of. I know they do try to take care of the boats there as I moved in right after a big storm and they had to put me in a temporary spot since they had shifted some of the other boats inward into where my spot should have been. It's a ways off in the middle of nowhere but is decent if you're looking for a good price. They also have a repair yard but I have no experience with them there.

Just moved away from Oly...

My wife and I just moved from the Olympia area to the Carolinas. We kept the boat at Swantown Marina on the "East Bay" of Budd Inlet. It was excellent - the people were extremely nice AND helpful. I only hauled the boat twice while out there - once to do some work and the second time when the shipping company came to pick it up for the cross country journey. However, they did a fine job hauling and blocking the boat and they have a security patrol that I believe is on duty all the time. The haulout was reasonably priced, but the per-day charges for a short haul were high in my opinion. The slip fees were reasonable before you added on the ~12% tax on top of the actual fee. Still, the marina was quite nice - walking distance from restaurants and the farmer's market and the people on the dock were always nice... We were originally on J dock originally and then moved to C dock shortly thereafter. Being further out (C-dock) turned out to be a lot better. The marina just finished installing a new set of docks, so I would think they should have room there. I would highly recommend Swantown. If/when we return to the South Sound, that's probably where we'd keep the boat again... Good luck! matt
