Thanks for all the responses. It looks like my 22 was definitely made before Nov., '72. And if one responder is correct, mine is the 3,124th boat made by O'Day and the 132cnd 22 made. Anyone have a Class # lower than 132? Some other signs of age are the number of handholds in the hand rails (mine have 5 but if you order one from Rudy you get 6), the slope at the stern (see photo), the main sheet configuration (mine does not attach to the backstay but rather to both ends of the transom and a double block on the end of the boom). Anything else? I'm still stumped about my hull color. I'm sure it has never been painted but I've never seen the light blue on another O'Day. Anyone know how many color options O'Day offered? I know, call Rudy.

I know that...

I had a 73 and it was yellow. i have seen white, dark blue, red and your lt. blue before. The lt. blue was popular with the Rhodes 19, daysailor and widgeon as well. my 73 had the mainsheet configuration yours has. Not the best but IMHO safer than with a triangle plate on the backstay. The mainsheet got in the way alot, so I changed it to a traveller system on the transom (MUCH better!!!)

Traveler pic?

Mike - would you happen to have a picture of your traveler set-up? It sounds like your O'Day is history. What are you floating on now? Also, I'm about to install tracks for my 135 genoa sheets. Any advice about location or installation?

O'Day 22

I picked my "22" up at the factory in Fall River in July of 1973...I think my number is 330. I have the orginal advertising brochure, if you would like a copy....provide a "fax" number or address. As I recall one could get a white, blue or yellow hull.

A copy of the original brochure would be great! Fax #614-837-1426. Thanks! How's life in Maine? I got there last summer for a week. Spent all my summers growing up in Maine. Ohio's sure not the same.

still an O'Day

DC, still floating on an O'Day. Sold the 22 and moved up to a 28 ( I still love the 22) As for a traveller, I could have gone the expensive route and bought a Harken small boat traveller, buty I went with the inexpensive way which was...... got a new set of Shaefer mainsheet blocks (1 with becket and cam cleat) attached to end of mast and then I ran a 3/8 line between 2 cleats on the top of the transom. Through the line I let the block slide freely. I also added a short (1 1/2 ft. ) pigtail line to the bottom block with a loop which I could then pull the mainsheet to windward and cleat it off.
