Belliure 41 Back in the Chesapeake
As some of you may recall, I've been driving a school bus since January 2005, one of the joys in my second retirement life. It also allows me to keep and sail our expensive sail boat. My latest proclamation, when asked about my retirement plans, I say when I turn 92. So that is when I might, just might, consider ending my sailing career. Whether any of our kids will take over the boat, remains to be seen. Perhaps.

Many factors will come into play over the next decade that will affect my proclamation and I will deal with crossing that bridge when I get to it. Until then...
What can I say? (Well, it is a sailing group) May you have fair winds and following seas!

Keep on making those videos - love watching them!

Hunter 29.5 Punta Gorda
Well life is funny. We lost our boat to Ian and I sort of thought that was it for boating. There is slim pick'ens in SW Florida. A week ago I found our boat on a salvage site with bidding starting at a dollar. Long story short I now have a Hunter trawler. The only damage wasloss of the rig. No hull damage all systems work so why not? Some have asked me if I plan to rerig. Probably not. The amount of money would be foolish. Being on the water at our favorite anchorages is what counts for us.

It's great to hear how many SBO members are still sailing in their 70s and some into their 80s.
I started sailing in 2012 when I was 58. It was part of my planning for retirement in 2017. My goal at the time was to still be sailing when I was 70. I'll hit that milestone this year and now I'm setting a new goal to still be sailing when I turn 80.

I have had some customers who have sailed until 85 years of age and even 90. They are they and you are you. Doesn't make any difference the success stories of others, or the not so success stories of those who age not so gracefully. You have to consider you and your abilities or lack of - whichever. Maybe sailing has become more of a hassle and so if you are not ready to pull the pin on boating, consider a powerboat that you can handle and enjoy it as long as you are able. I think you will know when it is time.
