I'm on the "Upper Bay"

I'm on the "upper Bay", think Annapolis, I'm right across from it and sail near the Bay Bridge. I'm looking to trailer to Lake Ontario next summer so I don't see why a trip south would be a problem. Show me a ramp and I'm in, so to speak. Actually, it would be fun to gather a bunch of older Macs together for a sail. Why not make a weekend out of it? Anybody else on the east coast interested? -John

Also on the Chesapeake

I'm in Deale, just south of Annapolis off Herring Bay. I just bought a 1985 Mac 25. Depending on when, I'd be interested.

Kewl....some responces

K'ewl,,, A bit of responce is welcomed,,,Maybe we can get a group thing going on this near spring or summer,I have a lot of repairs to do on my 74 Mac Venture 25 over the winter,I have little time sailing this year,,maybe 15 hours or so,,lol,,but that will be cured the next season for sure,I Have never been over to Tangier island and would love to sail there,,,any other ideas are greatly welcomed,I have been putting in at locklies marina this year,,the ramp is not the best at all,,,maybe the public landing very near there would be better,And maybe I can find a safe parking area at one of the locals places there too..,This area is between Deltaville and Urbana, and only 5 miles from the bay and 25 miles or so to Tangier,, there are motels and ect in the area too.,,,some very good sailing waters..stay in touch,,,I can be e-mailed at Zoldhippie420@aol.com. no "y" in hippie, lol,,

Tangier Island

Just looked up Tangier Island on the good old internet. Looks like a good place for a gathering of old Macs. Lots of details to be considered but lots of time to prepare as well. Anyone familiar with the area that might want to help with ramps, dockage, anchorages, etc? Things to do and see while in the area? We have never overnighted on our boat (yeah, I know that's half the fun. I'm still trying to get my wife and son over their fear of heeling). I think we will have a variety of experience among the crews ranging from very little to very experienced. I'm probably somewhere on the low side of average. I know the basics of what goes where and does what and how to make the boat go this way or that, but definately have a lot more to learn. We are getting better and our confidence is up some. This summer we have actually left the shelter of our slip and channel and sailed under full sail in conditions that we wouldn't have even motored in before. We were even the last boat in during a small craft warning. Not the most fun we could have had but a great learning experience in a number of ways and a boost to our confidence in ourselves and our boat. I also learned that I really need some reef points in my main. I am hoping to get a lot more time for sailing next season, maybe make a few modifications (sail slugs and reef points come to mind), and just generally gain more experience. Hopefully we can get this put together. I think it would be a lot of fun and learning for all of us. -John

Just south of the Severn - West River

Hi All, I'm up for a nice trip, I'm off the West River just south of the Severn. I got my 26S last year and have been having a blast all summer. I think this is a great idea, we'd need to setup some logistics though. Maybe even a trip this fall? I'll be out this weekend, can't wait to see all the colors out there! I can be reached at: ha.ya.doin AT gmail.com -Sean

Caravan?

Sean, Since you are right across the Bay from me we should link-up for the caravan south to wherever we decide to hold this gathering. That way each of us would have a support vehicle along for the road portion of the trip in case of any land-based issues. I guess a 26S is vintage enough to join in this adventure. Should there be a cut-off year/model? Personally, I think any Mac should be welcome so long as they play nice and sail with the rest of us. No waterskiing behind a sailboat on this trip. Although, I will admit, a boat with a 50 horse could be useful if the wind drops and we all need a tow. Not sure if I'll be able to get out this weekend or not. If you see a plain-Jane 25 (even the M25 is worn off the sail)"Just Us Three", that's us. We generally play between Kent Island and the Thomas Point Light. My wife and son get nervous when there is too much traffic around. One of these days I will ignore their pleas and head for the Severn River. Until then- Happy Sailing -John

Caravan - John

Sounds good John. You know how it is? I'm trying to squeeze as much out of the season as I can! I hear we're supposed to have pretty good weather tomorrow...we'll see. The caravan idea works for me... fortunately/unfortunately the S/V Cousin Larrrrry only has an 8hp motor, so no waterskiing off my stern. Nothing but fairwinds and happy cruising for me. So are Malcolm and Darlene setting this thing up? -Sean

the "poor boys" sail group

sure thing,,,We will be setting some weekend sails up in the spring,I am mainly interested in older Mac models such as mine,,Just for getogethers to meet some of the local peoples here in Va,Also a thought, would be to have a different place to sail to,,oh say 1 every month or so,,And let me know what type of arrangments such as,,do people want and need good motels, resturants and ect,,any and all imput will be greatly listened to,,,Please let me know about your boats and mods that you have done..I have a total re-do to get done this winter,,I have a 1974 Venture 25,,I have yet to hear of one this old in here.T-shirts may be aval soon too,,,lol,,I have to see what I can design & print up here,, HAVE MAC WILL TRAVEL!!!!

T-shirts

I like the t-shirt idea. PBSG (Poor Boys Sail Group). Maybe a picture of an old Mac on the front? How about the side view from the brochure? My wife has agreed to go with me on this adventure when it all comes together. She would prefer a hotel/motel over overnighting on the boat. Personally, I would just as soon sleep on board, depending on how hot it is. I guess we would need to find a ramp that would be able to accomodate us and allow us to (safely) leave tow vehicles and trailers overnight if we stayed out, and a restaurant/store for food. Then it's a matter of picking a destination(s) to sail to. Maybe a list of neat places for a day sail with a gathering spot/time so people could venture out exploring if they chose to do so. Lots of thoughts and ideas. This could turn into a really fun time if we're not careful. -John
