I have 3 ST30 2 speed winches on my O'day 39. One of them needs severe servicing, the only problem is that 2 of the major components that I need are no longer available. That's what the NE master part place in NY told me. When I contacted another master parts place in Washington their response was better. For one of the prawl gears I could order a current part # and I would need to have it machined down-no problem for me...but the other prawl gear-no go. Any suggestions on a place that might have older parts? Could I obtain a machenical drawing from Lewmar that I could take to a machine shop-having the specs and a drawing of what you want is always cheaper than bringing in an old worn part and asking how much to reproduce this? Thank You.

Well.. it seems that Lewmar are up to tricks to make money out of us. I too need some plastic parts for e Lewmar winch but I was told that Lewmar do not produce them anymore and I have to get a new winch. I will get a new winch but NEVER a LEWMAR again. Mario

Mario, What are the vintage of the winches? Lewmar keep spares available on most items for 10 Years. With all the product that we build you can imagine the vast number of spares that need to be available. I can assure you that Lewmar are in the business to make REPEAT customers, and the best way to do that is through good customer service. Please post the type and style of winch, and I will see what is available..

I was out sick last Friday, so while going thru voice mail today (Monday), I was surprised to find a message from "Pete" of FL Rigging…. He had all the information I needed and wait times for items which I had never discussed with him. Someone really did their homework, by following up with master distributors to see who called in about the ST 30 looking for specific parts which are no longer available. I only read Ben's response on Sunday and checked out the FL Rigging site the same day, but had not contacted them yet. Ben-Thank You! As to some individuals with sly comments that I'm picking up on, Remember the old saying-It take two to Tango! I could have taken the word of a reseller who's response was-No longer available-sorry, and then bad mouthed the manufacturer. But, for a winch produced in 1984-hey at some point you have to stop with the old and get with the new, but realizing that this was a quality product which-not for the idiocy of the last who serviced it-would still be working well, I did not want to stop there. Calling several master parts distributors I found out that 1 of the 2 parts was available but a slight modification was needed-no big deal, and now thanks to Ben, I have the other part that I needed and all 3 of my "vintage 84" ST30 Lewmar 2 speed winches will be functioning as good as new. At a fraction of the cost if I had to replace them all…

Dear Ben Givens I need the upper and lower crown as the rope when under tension is slipping due to flattened grip teeths. My winch model is the ST30 fitted on a Beneteau 38S5 commisioned in 1991. Please note that they should be the black not the grey type. Would appreciate if I can get 2 sets as I have 4 winches aboard thanks Mario Grech. PS You can email me on mariog@maltagate.net
