When I acquired my 1974 H25 I was told that the keel had been modified. What an understatement. The original owner (I'm #3) was a racer. So, he replaced the sweep back design with a 4.5 ft. fen. He also moved the mast which has caused some compression, deformity and cracks in the deck, and generally has made this fine old boat a bear to enjoy. I am planning a MAJOR haul out with a complete refit and restoration this fall. I am hoping, nay praying, for some help. Does anyone have the specifications on the keel of a 25? Just getting close will be a big help. Thanks! Bill Jones wjoens3101@aol.com

Replacing the keel?

Given the problems with the mast step, it may actually be wiser (and cheaper) to look for another H25. Keels aren't cheap, and from what I understand, they're a real pain to change out. A good, largely unmodified H25 can be had for anywhere from $3-7,000, nicely equipped, if you keep your eyes peeled. This may be cheaper than the cost for a haul-out, a new keel, and the re-rigging of the mast... --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio' (A 1978 model, slightly different from yours!)
