Old Yanmar ysb-12, pull transmission help.

I am attempting to pull a good transmission, (reversing gear) from a trashed YSB-12 Yanmar

I am stuck after removing all bolts securing transmission to bell housing. There is a three inch gap all around between tranny & bell housing.

I cannot get any further. Like there is a step I missed. The tranny moves away from bell housing easily and freely then goes no further.

Any hot tips, ideas. actual knowledge from experience. well wishers?

Thank you very much for any assistance that may be forthcoming.

All the best,

Perhaps the tranny is in gear and it is locked up until it is in neutral. Just a thought. SS

Interesting.. if there is a three inch gap all around the bellhousing cover, you should be clear of the dampner plate splines?? ya may have a "notch" worn into the splines that is hanging up.. align as well as you can (so you are pulling straight away from the engine) then rotate slightly in both directions while pulling away.. put the transmission in gear and hold the engine to keep it from rotating too. I am not familiar with that engine/trans, but on most Yanmars, a couple of inches gap between the big bell cover (which is the front of the transmission case) and housing will get you clear of the splines and away from the engine. Good Luck.
