Old Strut

I have recently purchased a 1975 27' Oday sailboat. While it is generally in good shape, the strut should be replaced in the near future. Does anyone have advice as to how I can aquire a "new" strut for such an old sailboat? Any information would be appreciated. Additionally, I attempted to register the vessel with the Sate of Florida and I was told the vessel could not be a 1975 because the HIN ended in "64". The state employee said that according to her database, all sailboats reveal their year built via the last two numerals in the HIN. Any thoughts???

HIN Number

Does the HIN Number on your registration match the actual number on the boat? I had the same problem when I was selling my boat. The number on the previous owners registration did not match the HIN on the boat, and the person that I sold it to pointed this out. I compared the number to the previous registration not the actual HIN.Rob

HIN Plate

The HIN should be 12 letters and number combo long. The last two numbers is the manufactor date. Also check the first three letters of the HIN if they start with "FLZ" it is a state issued number and my have been miss dated by the state. While redoing the interior of my 272 I found one of the hidden HIN plate on the bulkhead starboard side under the cockpit storage compartment. John R.

HIN for O'DAY

A 1975 O'Day 27 will have a H.I.N. starting with "XDY", the next digit will be "M", the next 4 digits will be the Class 3 (or Hull#), then the last 4 digits will be either "M75" plus a letter code, or a four-digit code, where the first 2 digits are the month (1-12) and the last 2 digits are the last 2 digits of the year.This HIN should be molded into the outside of the stern.
