I am decorating a big office and already have some interesting nautical pieces, including a 12 foot oar on a wall. I would like to find an old large tiller for similar mounting. Would love any help I can get.
Try ebay. When I was looking for a replacement tiller for my boat, I kept tabs on the items offered at ebay. Every now and then, something really cool would come up; I remember someone was selling a pair of carved tillers; one had a mermaid figure carved into the end, the other a beautifully figured abstract. Another listing was a really long tiller made of some exotic African wood that was so dense it didn't float. One tip: add the phrase "boat" or "sailboat" to your ebay search or you will wind up with hundreds of garden tiller listings.
Or email him. Here's the scoop. Brent has some spars from an old sailing ship. These are genuine articles from a turn of the century gaff-rigged sailboat. They look great in his house. He's moving (or has already sold the house, not sure which), and recently asked me if I was interested in buying one. Tell him what you're looking for, and I bet he can work something out if he still has them.He owns Sunset Charters in Grapevine, TX
