Is it possible to remove the bow pulpit from a '74 Hunter 25 without disconnecting the forestay? How big a deal is it if I disconnect the forestay for a few days to have the pulpit repaired? Thanks. --eli s/v Rivendell Whitney's Marine

Forestay

I had to get my forestay chain plate wielded down by where the bow pulpit bolts to the chainplate. What you can do if you have to remove the forestay is to make a loop out of cable by attaching it to the toerail on the starboard and port side as close to the bow as posible. Then attach your jib halyard to the center of the loop, tighten it up with the winch and tie it off. It should be fine for a couple of days

Can you repair the pulpit while on the boat. I did that when another boat broke the center post. I had it repaired in the harbor.

I have left my forestay disconnected for days.

While replacing the chainplate bolts, doing some recaulking, etc. on my 27, I also had to disconnect my forestay, and simply held-up the front of the mast with my spinnaker halyard shackded to something handy up front and winched-up tight without any problems.
