I want to see if the original depthfinder and knot meter work on my 1980 h27. They are the round ones to the left of the cabin entrance. I have never hooked them up and the wires are there but i have no idea where they go. Are these things worth repairng? Can they be repaired? Can some one send me a picture of the back or a wiring diagram? Thanks

Replaced all of mine....
I also have a 78 H27. All of my instruments did not work or were unreliable when I purchased the boat. I could not find anyone to repair the so I replaced them with a Garmin 168 which has a depth sounder/fishfinder built in It came out about $50 cheaper than replacing each instrument individually plus I got a GPS and filshfinder. Rather than cut a larger hole in the bulkhead I mounted it on a swing are just inside on the port side of the companionway. Keeps it our ot the weather when not in use. It has worked out very well. For reference, the transducer and the paddle wheel (whatever the proper name is) are located in the Vberth just aft of the water tank. Good luck.

My 1979 H37C also has the two round instruments on port side of companionway. Mine are Signets and still work just fine. There is a teak box in the q-berth with a door for getting to the back of these two instruments. There is wiring to the DC panel for 12 volts through circuit breakers. Then there is wiring all the way to the bow through the bilge. The transducers are in the center v-berth locker. I have never seen a schematic if that is what you are asking about. But Signet is still in business if that is what you have. See Related Link. We used to have a Cherubini manual online that included wiring diagrams. It has disappeared and they were hard to read anyway. I called Hunter and they sent me 11x14" copies that are not too bad.

Reused old depth transponder
It's not easy to find a mounting place for a new transponder. The digital display on the original Datamarine depth unit was shot. So I bought a new Uniden depth unit, wired the old transponder to it with some radio shack pieces, and ingenuity. I mounted the new unit through a circle of teak that fits right into the old Datamarine aluminum can. Works like a charm at minimum effort. I don't use the speedo given the superior accuracy and reliability of a GPS at this latitude. It's low on my list to see if I could get it wired up and working. Would need a wiring diagram, though. Covered holes....
I made a wooden plate of red oak (hand it on hand) large enough to cover the 2 holes on the port side and a smaller one to cover the one on the starboard side. Varnished them well and secured with stainless screws and finishing washers. They make a nice place to hang a bell or something decorative and non-functional. Some might not like it but it has worked out very well for me and now I know for sure how much water is under my keel. Speed is not that important to me. I cruise rather than race. Good sailing.
