My Catalina 30 (hull #7) has the original Datamarine Electronics that have failed. I am replacing the depth transducer and depth instrument with a Standard Horizon DS-45 (4 inch cut out) and a DST150 depth transducer with a 1.65 inch thru hull hole. The old transducer fits in a hole of approximately 3/4 inch. Hull #7 has a petrution bulge in front of the keel that the transducer mounts (not available in later hulls). I have tried to remove it (after removing the holding nut) and I been having some second thoughts. The transducers is a very tight fit and is not moving even after a few (light) hits with a hammer. Catalina service said that there is nothing else holding the transducer except the removed nut. Has anybody performed this procedure and If so can advice me with his expertise? Thank you, Christos Mallios

larger hole for depth sounder

I have not done what you are up to but I did replace the transducer on my Catalina 28 to a Standard Hor. with a larger hole. To enlarge a small hole to a larger I used the hole saw for the new hole and cut a piece of 2x4 wood, then took that plug and sanded it in a drill press to the size of the old hole. This then acts as a centering devise when placed back on the hole saw's centering drill bit& since it extends higher then the teeth on the hole saw it will center the teeth and allow for a nice new round hole without any walk-around from trying to hold the drill still and cut a new hole. Good luck
