OK, the "hunks and chicks" didn't give me anything to post (my daughters probably fit in the latter, but if you think I'm going to post pics of my four daughters for you pervs, you're nuts). However, THIS "chick" is OK to post. Her hat fell down right before my wife shot it, but THIS, my friends, represents what sailing is about for me. Relaxing, enjoying the experience with those important to me. That's my 2 year old grand daughter learning the ropes. This was taken while using the autopilot on my O'Day 25. You talk about a relaxing, easy boat ride. No way would this be done on a powerboat! Next post, I'll post one of just her.

Oak Harbor - The Marina

The marina didn't do very well. This was the picture I saw that set my heart a-pounding, and made me pretty much decide there wouldn't be much left of my project boat. What you're seeing here is a row of 7 docks that used to sit paralle to each other. At the far right, you can see the leeward dock, still running straight. The next 6 docks were progressively closer to the wind, and progressively more severely damaged. In the foreground, there is a trimaran. Where that boat is tied off is (was) the beginning of dock 6. It was broken off at that point. Look 3 boats to the right, and just to the left of those boats, you can see the dock, almost running parallel to the bank. On the other side of that dock, you can see two sailboats, with another boat (looks like a power boat) right behind them pushed against them. Next to that second boat, you can see a third boat further to the right of the other two. That's my boat. The blur directly behind mine is a boat pushed up against mine, that knocked out the aft window. The boats scattered everywhere was almost unbelievable.

However, my Coronado did pretty well. We lost some rub rail, and one of the aft cabin windows was broken. As you can see in the pic, there was lots of scrub marks from the destroyed dock, but I feel very fortunate. We had planned on refinishing the hull and repainting anyway. I'm a little concerned about what to do on the rub rail. The manufacturer isn't in business anymore. It's only the insert that's missing. I'm considering replacing it with heavily varnished oak if I can't find some other source. We're going down in a couple of weeks to shop around for a "temporary home" in another marina, and hoping to haul her in December or January to refinish the hull. Overall, it's not MUCH more of a project than it was before. Had lots of work to do on it before the hurricane. Now we have a little more, but not bad at all. Overall, we feel very fortunate. My understanding is that about 60% of the boats were sunk or totaled.
