Old boat to new boat traditions

A fellow sailor gave my wife and I the honor of riding along on the first sea (OK, Lake Erie really)trial of his new (used) boat. He seemed to believe that three minds might solve problems better than one, although this violates all real-world laws. Anyway, he had a question that I could not fake an answer. When changing boat/ships is there any tradition of transfering a piece (equipment, etc.)of the old boat to the new? Andy "Baroque"

Invent one!

Mix up a batch of dacquiris and hoist the US flag from your old boat onto the new one. Drinks all around!

its called the pre-sale change out

Where you move all your better than in your next boat equipment from your old boat, before putting it up for sale. I have seen others change out everything from anchors to halyards to VHF radios, albeit portables.

Yes...

Just the normal stuff... someone must sacrifice a virgin. (if there are any left) 1st mate needs to do all the work... while the captain sings sailing songs. It would be appropriate to have plenty of libations and wear costumes at this time. Enjoy.
