make your deal for the boat salvage parts on a time basis...set it up so you can do the salvage work now and store the parts till you can pay for them ...make sure that it is understood that the disposal of the hull is there responsibility and not yours ...by doing it this way you get what you want and pay for it when you are able to......then that frees the boat up for them to get it disposed of in a timely manner ..if you can do it this way everybody wins....just be carful that you make it understood that the disposal is there part.... not yours and by paying them money only transfers ownership of salvaged parts to you and not the hull...deal sounds sweet as you discribed but it could back fire if you end up owing the hull as well........good luck...

Biggest issue might be the effort of stripping the boat, then selling all the bits. Where to store the bits, etc. Are you sure it hasn't already been picked-over?

But mostly I'm jealous. I am, and will always be a happy trailer-sailor, (huge fun for little $$) but I'd also like to take on a long-term project of refitting a larger boat and trying some of this cruising and live-aboard stuff I keep hearing about.

Where are you going to put all the extra *rap?
How many CT41's does one girl need?
2 months worth of income is a lot on a budget
Can you buy just the parts you need/want?

I'm sure there are many more. ;D

Doesn't sound like a good deal for the seller Woody unless more $$ was offered. I would never go for someone devaluing anything I had by stripping parts off of it until I had received the full payment.
Of course I'm not casting shadows on Zee's character, I've just been shafted a couple of times by people that came off as honest.

that is why i stated it that way ...if she cant get the deal that way...best walk away......i think she said they were going to sink it anyway.....i agree with you about devaluing it but if it is to be sunk anyway 800.00 is better than no 800.00 on the bottom......

Pay them as you get a few $$ and remove what you can. They used to sell merchandice on a lay-a-way plan SO this isn't a new idea just a new application. You have much to gain and little to loose if you can start removing parts as you make payment. Are you planning to stay there for the next couple of months anyway?

I'd be all over that deal and you might be able to sell some of the booty on EBay...one man's junk is another man's treasure.....even the stuff you don't need might sell for nautical decoration.
I still have stuff picked from derelicts from 30 years ago when I restored an old Chris Craft and I should EBay that stuff too just to clean out the attic at my shop

I think it's a no brainer. $800 for the windvane alone is worth the trouble of removing it and getting it to work again. I've never seen a monitor for less than 2500 anywhere.

Here in Mission Bay there are always a number of impounded boats over by the lifeguard station, waiting for disposal.... Underneath the bird crap you'll see spars, winches etc. that have value.... especially when you see so many yayhoos writing in here who have purchased boats without spars, rudders, etc..... Wondering why no one goes over and strips the good stuff off. The boats eventually get used for target practice or sunk for fishing reefs.

I like the idea of working off the price with the Harbor Master, bartering seems to be the way of the world today. Anyhow I wish you lots of luck.
