OK, who was asking about the Garhauer Crane?

Here are some shots of our new Crane that arrived yesterday. We installed it today. Of course it isn't installed as Garhauer intended. The main beam is mounted through the top cockpit combing and sits on the floor of the stern locker. Garhauer expects it to be mounted on the deck and supported by the stern rail. Nah,,,

I love Garhauer stuff, functional, bombproof, and at a good price. Plus they make it all inhouse and will customise things for you. What is the working load?

As Garhauer built it, to hang from the stern rail,

150 pounds. I figure this one will do 300 pounds. (not that I would) We could lift that much with 1:1 purchase. (it comes with 6:1) The primary winch just in front of it, is engine driven hydraulic. And you should see the 'color' of the stainless in person. Deep blue/black. Now what am I going to do with the rest of the boat? *pop

Hi Fred, it sure looks good! With that block and tackle I wonder if one could do an engine change? Definitely a nice piece of equipment - and - their prices are right.While you were working on this yesterday - you were probably too busy to noice - I was beating up Port Orchard Channel right past you with one reef in the main. Went to Port Orchard for the weekend but came back a day early because of the bumpy and rolly mooring. The fenders were really doing a number on the gelcoat. Going there we noticed a lot of trawlers headed for Poulsbo, including one mega-yacht (you might have seen him) that cruised up the Bainbridge Island coastline, and figured they would all be home on Sunday, so to avoid being beaten up by them we just went back a day early. Worked out well.300#? That's a lot. With the hydraulic winch there I wonder if it could be used for a man overboard recovery? The problem might be getting the person up and over the railing. Come to think of it, maybe the motor would be in the way?Tell the fishermen it's part of your fishing gear! Hang a scale from it! (and be sure to have the load limit posted on the arm)

Thanks John, and I might have seen you. And I did

see that mega yacht. Biggest private yacht I've seen go by from there.As far as MOB recovery, like most of us, our first response is the stern ladder. But if the MOB is disabled and still able to assist, we follow the Life-sling instructions method. The main halyard-then the Garhauer boom vang-to the MOB. All lifted by the hydraulic winch. Should work, but the key word is 'disabled'. And I like your fishing crane idea. Spoken like a true angler.
