I know that Island Girl is sold on this site and I am happy to support them when there is a product that I need. However,.... The Island Girl comments seem to be all positive and that is a good thing. I can buy that product and probably be happy. Now I have a friend (ok, so he is a powerboater, but he's still nice...) who claims that Dolphinite products are unbelievibly easy to use and produce a great finish that last all season. He has used Dolphinite for about 3 years. Prior to that he used Meguire's as I have up until now myself. He had never used Island Girl products. Have any of you used both of these products? What are the pros/cons of each? How do either of them compare to Meguires for easy of application and longevity of finish? TIA, Rich

Island Gril or What

I just finished using Poli Glow on my 1985 26' Oday. It almost looks brand new and is much easier to keep clean especially shoe marks. I put on about 6 coats that were very easy to do. The dark blue stripe below the rub rail and at the water line look like brand new. It is very easy to take it off to redue a spot. The cleaning is the harder part but not to bad. My cabin top and cockpit area were very chaulky, and now are nice and shiny. It took my about 3 days to do the boat from top to bottom. I left it in the water. It was a little tricky to do the water line, I tied a halyard to a dock from the top of the mast at low tide and let the incoming tide lay the boat over so I could get to the water line. You don"t want the applicator to get wet because it makes the job a little milky on the dark blue stripe. I had to redo some spots I got wet. I did have to order another bottle of the top coat to finish the job. My total cost was about $100 including large scour pad on a long wooden handle that I used on the hull. Now I am anxious to see how long it will last in the Flordia sun. Sorry Island Girl. I bought the Ploi Glo at a demo at a boat Show and also it was given a good review by Practical Sailor.

Wax is a seasonal product!

Rich: The use of wax is a seasonal ritual. When you use IG you have started a solution to your gelcoat problem (if it is dull and oxidized). If you start on a new boat with IG, I would think the boat is going to look great in 5,10 or even 15 years (no first hand experience with this point). I used IG on our boat 3 years ago and it only needs a little touch up each year with some spray wax or what ever you want to use. I have not had to use the cleanser again. I personally believe that using the products like traditional wax or even the acrylics are sort of like painting. You start painting and you paint the rest of your boating days. Some products every year and some every few years. With the IG system it is not much more than a clean up chore. No real elbow grease after the first time (if you keep it clean and do maintenance waxing).

Island Girl

Rich, I used Island Girl last season on my Beneteau 361 and it has held up really well and the boat still looks great. I don't think the clean up will be much of a problem this upcoming season Charlie Gruetzner S/V Angels' Grace

I'll second Neil...

I applied poli-glow almost a year ago and the shine is still the same as when I first put it on. There is a fair amount of effort in getting the surface clean to apply the Poli-Glow, but the results are well worth the effort. I have gotten several comments from others on the pier and have passed on the web site. http://www.paradigm-products.com/default.htm So far all I have done as far as maintenance is concerned is hose the dirt off. At some point they recommend applying additional coats but as of this writing it does not need it....
