Next week I need to move my boat (Catalina 30 TRBS) 35 miles from the marina to its winter storage location. It will be destepped and hauled the same day, so I need to have the boat pretty much prepared for storage before I leave the marina, including pulling down the main and the boom. Still, I'd like to have the option of using the genoa on the trip to the yard if the wind allows, rather than having to motor only. Is there any danger to using the genoa with the boom removed? Does the vang stabilized the mast in any way?

No problem.

With using the genoa with the boom off that is. But you do have a problem with your location. BRRR!

Sailing under genoa only is no problem. But I don't understand why you can't sail with main and genoa the 35 miles. Dropping the main and removing the boom at the other end is an easy job that is not time consuming. Dropping and rolling the main should take 10 minutes and another 10 or so to remove the boom??
