I would like to thank all those who responded to my article on the best place for a small microwave oven onboard the Hunter 33. I finally decided that for my situation, I would build a new cabinet over the galley to hold the oven. The original cabinet was too large for the small oven and too small to hold an oven and dishes, so I decided I would either go larger or smaller than the original. Besides being a beautiful and even artistic job, seems to me from your photos that your layout also may do the following: It appears that for the quarterberth, the solid and deeper cabinet adds a good bit of visual separation from the main cabin adding privacy approaching that of a separate stateroom, especially with the dishes door open and hanging down. Is this so? The deeper cabinet also might prevent some head knocking by being too deep to get a head under it. The stock cabinet is just high enough to be a good hazard, especially on the corner. A couple of questions: Did you keep the fluorescent under the bottom of the cabinet? How do you feed the 110v? What wattage is the microwave and what kind. How did you decide to use the one you chose? Do you expect to use an inverter with it? Thanks for taking the time to share your work.

Thanks Terry! Sure am glad to have this one out of the way. You asked me a couple of questions concerning the wiring. A while back, I did away with the flourescent fixture and replaced it with one that gives white light / red light. Its brass and it came from West Marine, uses halogene bulbs. I love it, gives off a nice warm light and at night underway can be switch to red where it gives a red glow but not too bright. You can not really see it below the cabinet because of the lip on the cabinet that hangs down about 1 1/2 inches. But this kinda keeps the light to the galley area. The 110 feeds to the cabinet by that black plastic tubing up from the shelf on the port side of the boat, the plug in is on the small bulkhead that is part of the galley cabinet infront of the ice box. I'm not sure if I will ever get an inverter or not, but its a possible solution for when we are anchored out. I shopped alot for this microwave, wanted the smallest one I could find that would still take our plates... 10.5 or 11 inches. This is the GE model number JES636 and I purchased it from Walmart for $54.00. It seems to have all the latest tech. on it and I am so far very pleased. Its wattage is 650 watts and has a turntable. So, if you decide to add one to your boat, check Kmart, Walmart and Sams, they all had pretty good selections and great prices. We are excited to get up to the lake and zap some pototoes while the steaks cook on the grill. Its great hearing from you Terry, how is your boat coming along. The prints you did of the hull looked wonderful, maybe one day I'll get around to that part of the boat too. Thanks again, David

Nice cabinette work Dave. I have wrestled with what to do with that dish rack myself. Your solution is a nice option. It's nice to see family participation in the project also. Have you considered building vertical hatch doors? They were a fairly easy project and the results look good and best yet, are very functional. Don
