I am amazed at how clean my oil in the diesel is staying this season. Normally, it doesn't take too many hours for it to turn dark, but this year it is staying pretty clear. Someone told me it is due to better formulation of the oil. anyone else notice this?

I change mine at the beginning and end of the season and thought I noticed it a bit clearer this last fall and again this season. I chalked it up to changing the filter mfg - but my guess were just wanting to believe its cleaner.

What brand filter and type of oil are you using?

My guess is that it has more to do with formulation of the fuel and what air filter you use. Since I made an air filter using a motorcycle foam element to replace the to stock one, my oild has stayed very clear.

I am using a NAPA oil filter as I have for the last 4 or 5 years and, thanks for reminding me wufibugs, have not replaced my air filter for several years. I tend to believe that the oil formulation is the reason. My source is usually pretty reliable with things like this.

Started using Shell Rotella and am seeing very clear oil after 45 hrs. Impressive, hope it is lubricating better also.
