The same thing happened to me, once. I filled it pretty full, then lit it to admire the warmth of the ambiance it provided. Unfortunately, the lamp oil expanded as the lamp warmed up and it dripped, although I didn't notice it until later. I don't fill it up so full anymore and haven't had any more problems. As the oil warms it does tend to creep as it loses some of its surface tension.
