A well meaning friend put about 1/2 quart of 30 weight oil into the fresh water cooling system of my M18 Universal before discovering his error. I got most out with an oil extractor and from the overflow, but wonder what else needs to be done? Drain the system and replace the thermostat? Potenial problems from running it with a little oil in the fresh water system?

Flush it. Completely, maybe even twice, then refill with antifreeze and distilled water, should be fine.

Your friend is buying the next few rounds, right? :)

Not a real problem .. Ya need to get out as much as you can see, then flush the coolant side and refill with new coolant.. Won't harm anything.. Change coolant again after the summer is over.
EDIT.. Stu beat me to the post .. but that is what ya need to do.

When you flush it, after draining, you can use Shell Coolant Flush and water mix and run the engine with that for 15 to 30 minutes. Then drain that and replace with Coolant and Distilled Water 50/50 mix. Consider uding the Shell Rotella ELC (Extended Life Coolant). You cal buy that as a 50/50 mix, but much cheaper to but the ELC Concentrate and mix that 50/50 with distilled water. You should be good to go for a few years.

Thanks for the replies. I'll flush several times and refill. The drains are not easy to reach, and are hard to open. Apparently the PO - friend who made the mess - didn't bother with such trivial stuff as maintenance.

flush it for about 20+ minutes using a cup full of powdered cascade dishwashing detergent added to the water... it will dissolve the oil without foaming.
then flush it again with fresh water, then drain and fill...
