Hello All, I am planing to change oil of my Yanmar 4JH5E myself. Last year the Yanmar service put ELF 15/40 API CH-4/SJ oil in it. Does it matter if I use another 15/40 oil with different API class oil this year ? Such as CF, CF-4 or CI-4 which are still recommended by Yanmar... Considering the residual oil left in the engine, would it be a problem mixing different API class oils?

Thanks for your help.

Best to not mix full synthetic and conventional oils.. I am not familiar with ELF oils, but any good conventional multi-grade 15/40, diesel oil (ELF also) like Shell Rotella T or the Esso or Chevron equivalents are fine.

I've been using Delo 400 oil in our 4JH2-TE for years.

Your service manual should specify the minimum API. Anything farther down the alphabet is newer, and of better formulations. So, don't use any oil with a letter closer to the front of the alphabet.
