Does any one know what the oil filter for a 3gm30f would be in a Fram filter?(or an other brand?) Thanks Pete

Buy the Yanmar

If you don't have a local supplier you can get it mail order from Gordon.

Fram #

PH3593A is the Fram #. However, after reading many posts on the subject including reviews of Fram filters, I agree with Frank. There are other good filters out there, but from what I have read the basic Fram is a step down in quality. Given the slight cost, I'm going with Yanmar too.

Don't be cheap

When you by a rice burner you don't just buy a hunk of metal you also by an engineering philosophy. That philosophy is that they (Yanmar) want your wear item (parts) business too. In order to assure them that parts business they engineer those wear items so that it's only economically feasible for them to produce those parts. When I went to Yarmar maintenance school the school demonstrated this with cut aways of the oil filters and fan belt cross sections. So if you want to avoid premature failures use Yanmar parts and not "will fits".

Yanmar Filter

The Yanmar Oil Filter for the 2GM20F and 30F is part# 119660-35150. The price is $5.68 how much are you going to save by purchasing a Fram part? The oil filter and 2 qts of high quality oil costs $8. You only need to change it once a year. I would say this is pretty cheap maintenance for an engine that would cost over $8000 to replace.

Another "Stick with Yanmar" Vote

There is an instrument (I think the oil pressure transmitter?) that is part of the oil filter mounting base on the engine. Some non-Yanmar oil filters will not fit properly (even though the screw threads fit) and can damage the instrument. On a cynical day I am certain that Yanmar did that JUST to force you to buy their parts. But as other posts said, an oil filter once a year is just not that much money; why risk? Carl

please read my new post! thanks

Thanks for all your imput! Please read my new post and tell me what you think! The fram filter was not a cost saving issue,I use yanmar oil and filters (oil and fuel) but I'm still concerned about the oil filter not being correct. I was going to use it for a comparision. The new filter is different is size and color even though it is marked a 119660.

Don't use FRAM filters on Yanmar engines

Here is the motor head veiw of using FRAM filters on Yanmar engines. Yanmar places the filter ahead of the oil pressure regulator. So the filter is on the high pressure side of the regulator. This is very unusual in an engine design but was supposidly done to alliviate a problem with un-filtered oil gunking up the oil pressure sending unit. All oil filters have a built in pressure relief valve. This is designed in to allow flow by in the event the filter gets clogged. FRAM filters are desined for applications in which the filter is in line after the oil pressure regulator. (ie. The low pressure side). If you put a FRAM filter on a Yanmar engine the pressure relief vavle will stay open and in effect you will have no filter at all. Yanmar desinged thier oil filter with a high pressure relief valve. (May have been intentional. don't know) But we are kind of forced to use it.
