Non-Yanmar Filter - use caution

As posted here in the past, non-Yanmar filters may lead to futere problems. I inquired with Yanmar and they said this...Aftermarket (non-Yanmar) filters fit, but they lack a check valve within the filter that allows oil to drain back out of the filter and/or the engine. After repeated start-ups, oil must be recirculated thru the engine instead of just resting up there inside. Eventually, this leads to unnecessay wear on the engine. It may just be worth spending $4.00 more for that Yanmar filter in the long run.

Oh Boy, another Controversy!

Yanmar is VERY sensitive about after market parts. They appear very jealous of their profits. A friend of mine hacksawed apart a NAPA filter next to a Yanmar filter. He found them both to have the same check valve inside. I just can't see a major maker skimping on a specification like that.
