My 1980 Hunter 30 has a oil change pump plumbed directly into the bottom of the crankcase. I cannot seem to get it to pump. When I put my finger over the hose there seems to be adequate pressure. What could I be doing wrong?

Never saw one of these. Where is the pump and where does the hose lead? You put your finger over the outlet end and felt pressure? The usual reasons that oil won't move are 1) it is not hot enough and therefore too thick, and 2) the cap(s) on the valve cover were not removed to allow air to enter. With my manual pump(down the dipstick tube) I also prime it by filling the input tube with oil first. But a built in oil pump? Great idea if it works.

Pickup Tube
Make sure the pickup tube is down in the sump and not coiled around and above the oil level. Does it sound like it's sucking air? That's also a problem with the dipstick type pumps, by the way.
