Hi group,
I am a new owner and I went down to look at my boat and found a couple of things.

Looks like the motor, MD6A, needs what looks like an oil cap. THe previous owner has a rag stuffed in it. It is the cap directly behind the stairway panel at the upper end of the motor. Any idea where I can get one that fits this motor?

Also, The table top. From pictures, it looks like it stows in the V-berth ceiling area. I don't see any way for this in my boat. Am I missing some part? Looks like a little ledge that I could fit one end of the table onto, but nothing on the other end of where the table top would be to hold the table.

Thanks,
gh

Hi gh,
Can't help with the oil cap, but I have a picture of the rear
bracket my table slides into. I don't know if it's original, but it
works well, keeping the table in even during a pounding.

We installed a small hook and eye to secure the aft end of the table to the
ceiling--the eye is attached to the ceiling and the hook to the underside of
the table. The table has never fallen down, however, we do get some sideways
movement in heavy seas. This hasn't been a problem since neither of us
attempts to sleep in the v-berth in heavy seas!

I have a canvas strap that I sling and cradle the aft end of the table. It never rattles and I can tighten it when it is needed.

Dave could you provide more details? Where do you secure the strap to?
How broad is the strap? Do you put the front of the table onto the
shelf in the forepeak?

thanks

John, the front of the table goes into the forespeak and the recess for the leg female portion. The strap is 1in wide and tightens with the buckle that has teeth on it. A standard buckle. How the strap is attached, I'll have to go to the boat because I can't visualize the connection. It is a series III Vega.

John,

Lealea came with two eyes screwed to the overhead the length of the table back from the forward bulkhead. I attach a bunji cord and stretch it across with the table bottom side up and the bunji stretched so it runs throught the corner gaps in the fiddles. The other end of the table rests on the shelf on the forward (Chain locker) bulkhead.

Hi Don,

This is very interesting because I was thinking of doing the exact same
thing but I was wondering if the minn kota would be strong enough. I'm very
please to know that it works fine anf that the 44lbs is ok to do the job.
Would you have any picture of the way you've install the Minn Kota? And do
you thnik that a 55lbs would make any difference?

Thank you very much

If you are interested in electric trolling motors or even the new electric
outboards (or electric inboards) consider the following site. Very nice
write-up with a good explanation of power. I find electric great for a
dinghy too. It would also make a great stern thruster for maneuvering the
Vega in tight fairways (when using a diesel).

I have a Minn Kota 55lb for as a little trolling motor (freshwater), but am
considering going to a Riptide saltwater version. These come up 101 lb of
thrust (36 volts). One thing I am experimenting with is to use the little
Honda generator to recharge the batteries. I guess I would have to say it
would become a "Hybrid" boat.
