Clark San Juan 23 Ohio?
Hi there-
We are moving to the Dayton, Ohio area for a new job and know very little about the area (or about sailing in Ohio). We have a SJ 23 that we are debating as to whether to sell or bring. Any thoughts???

It would be ideal to find a lake big enough to use her (especially to just accustom our young son to sailing/being on a boat) and perhaps try to buy a summer home on that lake. We noticed that many of the lake were surrounded by state park land. Help!

Thanks!
SG

For local sailing there's Cowen Lake, which has produced some superior sailors including, I believe, a national champion in J'24's. There are other lakes such as Buck Creek near Springfield - which is primarily a fishing lake - but I've seen sailboat on it. But yes they are surrounded by state parks because they were created via dam projects. You'll have to travel some for places to buy vacation property. Maybe Indiana or Kentucky or especially Tennessee. There is always lake Erie, in which there is a strong racing community and history.

Cowan Lake is a puddle, best for dinghies. :) Try Grand Lake. Real marinas and sailing clubs there. Guy at our club used to sail there before he moved north.
