I just was at my Marina Burnt Store and two power boats came in from Captiva Marina and Coast Guard told them to go home or stay in in that Marina until they say its OK to go home.
Just when we thought we were going to get a clear season of no hurricans here in Florida.

Nick,

Looks like we dodged the bullet...
My boat is down in Marathon (sailed it down from Norfolk to Marathon 10-20 - 10-28); so, I was also a little concerned a couple of days ago about Ida. Glad to see it go by us well to the West.
Strong winds in the Keys for the past few days, also; but, apparently not from Ida.

So you left it there Buck? Where exactly? We went through there in March and found it ridiculously expensive. They wanted $3.50 a foot for an overnight at the fuel dock! We went back out to the anchorage and stuck four times in the channel with a 4.5 foot draft. Left the next morning without fuel and sailed straight to Venice. Great luck having Ida miss.

I left it at Sombrero Dockside Marina. It will stay tied up for Nov and Dec
(~ $650 for Nov; ~ $800 for Dec.). Then out to a mooring for Jan thru Apr
(~ $250/mo). Ck Marathon City Marina for mooring rates.
When I was there last week, the mooring field was about 2/3 empty and at least half the slips at Sombrero were vacant. VERY different from past years. It used to be very difficult to get a slip or mooring by the end of Oct.
As I came down the ICW in Fla (from Fernandena to Lake Worth ) I saw only 3-4 other cruising boats underway at all. Not sure where everyone is, but they were not on the waterway in late Oct.

Once on a delivery from Tampa to the Abacos we stayed at the yacht club. We had to wait out a four day low and did that for free. Of course we had a letter of intro from our own yacht club with us. It happened to be when they had their commodore's ball and we ate like kings. So where will you go from Marathon?

With the boat there, we'll go down to Marathon about once a month for 4-5 day weekends (longer over the Holidays); then I'll take it back to Norfolk in late April.
I'd like to run over to the Exumas again, but it means too much time away from work for me; so, I(we) have to be content w/ the Keys.
If the weather is nice, we'll probably sail down and anchor in KW harbor for New Years, and my girl friend is signed up to do the KW 1/2 marathon in late Jan...
Come on down for New Years :)

Ed ... what's the format of the Letter of Intro ??? I'm a member of a small yacht club myself, and would be interested in pursuing the possible benefits of this. And, by the way, the New Hamburg Yacht Club, on the Hudson River, offers reciprocity to members of other Clubs ...and on a space-available basis to transient non-Club members too ....
