A pair of prescription Maui Jims went into the drink at my slip. I had to pay a diver 100.00 to retrieve them. Live and learn.

Ah yes, good ole Neptune. I've given him 2 full battons, a winch handle, and a unopened 16 oz Power-aid.

I once dismantalled my traveller control blocks, and accidentally lifted the plate off the bottom... All the carbon fiber bearings started bouncing across my deck and onto the ground, as my boat was in my shed.
I searched through the dirt and leaves on the ground for hours and found EVERY bearing! Ugh. That was excruciating.
Reassembling the double blocks was not easy either.

You sure that wasn't rabbit poop you picked up?

If you decide to look for it, maybe you'll find it next to my cell phone, eyeglasses, 10mm socket, pliers, and other stuff that I lost overboard! Join the club. ;-)

I bought a new light for inside the boat and wanted to use an LED.

WM had the bulb for $32 + tax.

Looking around I found auto back up bulbs, the exact same base- 2 for $16. Guess what?- I have a spare :)

You want to watch out for the Ebay festoon LEDs. The COLREGS specify both brightness and temperature (like 6500k). An anchor light or nav lights should look right otherwise it can be missed. I've read that some large boat captains complain because an LED all around looks alot like a bright star a few miles off.

One hot and incredibly humid first evening in Roadtown, Tortola, aboard our bare boat charter we had just finished provisioning the boat in the dark. Donning my brand new Black Diamond LED headlamp, wrapped around my sweat soaked baseball cap, I decided to take a breather behind the starboard wheel. As I removed my baseball cap to wipe down my brow, forgetting I was wearing the headlamp, it sling shotted off my head, bounced off the transom and dropped into the 20 feet of questionable quality seawater at the pier. It remains to this day.

Fortunately, I remembered an identical headlamp I purchased for the Admiral. I found that in the luggage, placed it on my head, and repeated the exact same scenario not more than 30 minutes later. I was immediately demoted to dumb ass.

I chartered there in February, but our Moorings boat came with lights.

Yeah, we actually expected lighting when we arrived too. We rented from BVIYC, on the other side of the harbor, 2nd and 3rd tier boats. The Bene 50.4 Cyclades had a burned out (actually melted) console lamp and the overhead bimini bulb was blown. We had it all settled in the morning when the boat yard crew returned. This was just another of those boing...tink...tink...splash things. The Admiral now provides me with baseball caps with the LED's mounted in the brim and the battery pack on the adjuster strap. They work nearly as well as a headlamp.
