Another rainy day in the shop. I received some fasteners from Jamestown Dist. and started working on actually bolting down some deck beams. We had soaked the clamp with Ethylene Glycol a few weeks ago and followed up by plugging the bottoms of the bolt holes today and filling them with CPES. I also sanded the old paint off and brushed a coat on for good measure. We then coated the deck beam end with it as well.

Once the wood was treated I laid out marking lines for reference to drill the outer holes through the deck beams.

This was a blind drill at an angle since there wasn't room to drill from underneath.

Luckily, it worked and the holes lined up nicely.

The next step was to drill pockets so I could get the carraige heads flush.

Of course this required some chisel work too

We found a not so nice surprise when we got back from lunch.

Hopefully I can figure something out soon since the Admiral starts work this coming Tuesday.

So tomorrow, we get to go back and see about getting more done. This was the first part we actually started reassembly.

Hey, nice post. I have been following your refit, and am enjoying your pro documentation of repairs. The place where you are keeping your project are trying to protect their bottom line. It is a sinking feeling to get such a notice. I am also falling on hard times. Good luck with it all.

dont know your repore with the yard but with you work ability and ethics ....you may want to go talk to them and see if you might trade out some of your labor till you get things in good repair with your land lord...they must be good peopleor you prolly wouldnt have used that place on the starting end of this problem....just a thought and my 2 cents....good luck......

I wondered if you had found an angel or if you were renting the space. Seems like the next priority is some fund raisers to save to the good ship "O'Joy". If you can reclassify the vessel to training status and get the youth groups involved. Having all outgo and no income is not comfortable when it is money at the heart of the discussion. Maybe some local publicity would bring out some deep charitable pockets.
You don't want this boat to own you. Charlie, please keep us up to date about the status of this effort also keep the yard owners up to date and don't turn them into adversaries.
Would they have a occupant for the building if you left? Would it be 30 days per month? Can you renegotiate the terms of the lease? They may be also cash strapped. I think that they know they have you by the short and curlies but they are giving you some wiggle room.
The letter asks that you pay your arrears. Is "O'Joy" worth at auction what you owe in rent?

Charlie- having just gone through the eviction notice scenario with a small business that I have become part of I strongly second any advice that says "talk to the yard owners" . I had just become involved with the business I mentioned- we teach woodworking to kids, often as an after school or lunch time program- when the founding owner received an eviction notice. An additional factor was the presence of some VERY unappetizing "collections staff" ( read "goons") We reacted buy meeting with the landlord with a plan to pay out the arrears over the next 6 months. As the choice was that or nothing ( maybe the satisfaction of hearing bones break!) they accepted, we moved to cheaper digs, and they will get their money.

A part of the plan did also include working a part of the debit off by doing some finishing trim work for the landlord and a couple of birthday parties for his kids. While it wasnt a lot of dollars, it did further show our intent to pay the debt.

Your yard probably does not want the problem of evicting you, re-renting, etc. If you can arrive at a mutually acceptable plan the result is far better for bot parties

Oh I talked to them right after I found it. They are nice folks but just need their rent. Nothing sinister here. It's just been a rough year, nothing more...
