Just posted this article "Offshore With the Hunter 35.5!!!" from an early issue of "From the Masthead" published by Sailboats Northwest in December 1990. Any owner of the 35.5 should find this a good read.
Offshore With the Hunter 35.5!!!
This is the story that I heard (can't remember from who): "The competition" referred to in the article, I think, was a Cal 40 skippered by the acknowledged top Pacific Cup tactician who had been "a hired gun" on some of the big sleds but wanted his own boat. Bought the Cal 40 for this race and tricked it out.
At the time, prior to the Pacific Cup race, the local North Sales loft owner Bruce Hedrick who often provided PHRF pre-race strategy talks to the skippers commented that he wished them luck as it will take a few races to come up in the standings. If I recall, this was in his comments in "Northwest Yachting", a local boating magazine.
