This is a book about a fellow who set up a Cal 20 for offshore sailing and, in particular, to do the Single-Handed Transpac. It has extensive appendices that would likely be of use for the purpose your propose. Since Capri 22's were not designed for offshore sailing, I expect one would be in for a fair bit of work to make one seaworthy for that purpose. Presumably, though, it could be done. Please keep the Board up to date on your project, I'm sure a lot of us would be interested!

Cheers, Charlie

I see you've got a tall rig. I'd invest the $$ to get a second reef put in your main. If the winds can really get crazy then maybe a 3rd. :)

Add some kind of material to assure positive floatation.
Very good point! The after and bow of the boat have room to put in inflatable flotation or even foam.

Good fitting companionway hatch boards that won't fall out if you get knocked down. Bow hatch closed & dogged, companionway hatch closed to help retain the hatch boards.

Another thought. Make sure you have the rear compartment latch secure. ( Mk 1's) Again if a sudden knockdown, to prevent from opening and allowing water to come in. I think, earlier J-24's had a compartment similar, then changed their design and totally removed the compartment hatch/cover.
