You mean this??

Just the same, it would be nice to hear something final from the authorities and confirmed with debris such as the motor or keel. Hearing from US Sailing or any other board just leaves one to wonder.

It's not the same as if it were an airliner going down. I don't think the NTSB is not going to jump in to this one.

Still , too bad for the loss of lives and my heart goes out to the family and friends of those lost.

Divers? Robert Ballard-style exploring???

Who gonna pay for that?

This is a tragic accident that killed fellow sailors. But is also not something that the government is going to try and prove 100%. The vast preponderance of evidence suggests that they motorsailed straight into the island. There is nothing that supports a ship-to-ship collision.

Anyone that wants to go for 100% proof will likely have to pay for that themselves.
OK, I can buy it not being important enough to determine the cause to spend the effort to get Mexican permission and deviate from other duties. I get it. I don't buy expense though. They are incurring the same expense on patrol as diving or investigating. Certainly the families and those of us in this race would like something more definitive but I understand that we may just have to live with our doubts and apparent contradictory elements. I get that too.

On one hand we will chose to find a black box in 8000' of water and even recover the dead BUT in this case we cant or will not even do a one or two day look around ?

American boat in Mexican waters. I don't know what the arrangement between the USCG and the Mexican Navy may be for this "search." There has always been a cooperative relationship as far as I know. Who would perform the search?

Sorry, I don't buy it. Why hasn't the authorities acknowledged the picts? The snorkler in one of the picts just doesn't seem to be at the correct scale.

Don't get me wrong, I believe the cracked up on the island I think the pictures are not authentic.

Photos & Diving

I so much hope those photos and diving report is authentic. It would be a relief to the family and fellow racers. I trust the keel et al is there too. Of course the odd part is that with a small surf running, that the crew would die from something other than drowning and the boat pulverized. Maybe the reports were wrong and the surf was large. Most of us have no pre-disposition or bias about how it happened; we just want to understand it better.

With the Spot track and everything else coming to light, it is pretty convincing. It is hard to believe an experienced crew would do this but you just have to let your guard down for a minute with the autopilot at night and you are in trouble.

We hit a rock in 2010 that was minding its own business at 7 knots and the impact was enough to fold a 60" wheel over and bruise a few people up and we just bumped it hard and kept going i dont want to think about coming to a complete stop :(

Having broken a few things like my left upper arm so bad it had to have a closed reduction with two points of fixation it does NOT take all that much to do a lot of dammage to the human body
