First race last night and we took the gun and first place with the help of fellow sailor Maine Sail. That is 3 wins in a row counting the 2 at the end of last season. I think we may have her dialed in pretty well. MS, did you get any good shots last night? It was a great night for sailing. Conditions were outstanding. I love early season racing:) http://www.centerboard.org/race/WedNightResults2008.html

Nice work Tim and MS

Three first places in a row says something. If your PHRF of 141 actually means something though you should be winning most of the time compared to the rest of your fleets ratings. Of course there are a lot of variables; skill, weather and luck to mention a few. I have come to love Wednesday night racing as it gets me out on a boat at least once a week during the season. On Weds. May 28th, my boat partner and a friend took our 1967 Tartan 27' (PHRF 240) out for the races and won, beating a Catalina 30' tall rig, Pearson 30', Ranger 26' and 23' among a few others (who we usually beat if we are trying). I was not there as I was the only crew on a delivery leg of a 50' Bendytoe from the BVI to Turks and Caicos (some 400+ nm which I will post about separately). Yesterday we finished 4th out of 8 in our division with only 2 of us crewing. How many do you usually take out on your Ericson 35' "Cordelia" for the races? What is the 'Dinner' column on the spreadsheet about? Keep up the good work.

Another good start

Memorial Day I did a 10 mile there and back with my cutter rig. The first five miles were upwind, to my disadvantage. 3 boats in my class dropped out due to heavy conditions, but we prevailed and took a first. The following Sunday my wife and I crewed on a CS 30 and, in moderately heavy air took another first. On Wednesday we were on the CS30 again and took a second in 16 kts of wind.

CalebD and Higgs

We usually have about 6-8 total. That night two crew dropped out because of weather so we had 6, 1 of which was strictly rail meat. The dinner column indicates when and what that crew made for dinner after the race. A different crew cooks dinner every week. Having the lowest PHRF on our class just means I should be taking the gun but if you look at the adjusted time, it was pretty close. Higgs, that is a CS30 behind us on the first leg that MS photographed. He did a good job of keeping up on the beam reach but the next leg was upwind and I can outpoint him by about 5 degrees. We had very good separation at the second mark and we increased our lead on every leg thereafter.

No wonder...

you got first place... you had the gun! If you need more rail meat... I am up there on the richter scale. Way to go.
