Cut out the pieces from 5.4oz Dacron for the leech and luff reefing patches and spray glued them together for easy sewing on main sail (hopefully tomorrow). Also 3 diamond shaped reefing line patches assembled...
Now I just need to figure out where to place the second reef on the mainsail....?

Did some online research and found a way to calculate the reduction in sail area depending on reef point location. Decided on a 45% reduction for second reef point which is ~ 7 feet up the luff for the tall rig main sail.... that way it does not interfere with a sail slug as I have to open up the seam for the seam tape to slide the patch underneath....
Need to trim the bottom of the patch so it is ~ level across the sail and with the foot of the sail....
Had to order #4 nickel spur grommets for the two main reef points. The in-sail reef points are #0 spur grommets. They are approximately 2" below the center line of the two main reef points....
For the three in-sail reef points I kept the outside distance from the luff and leech the same and equally split the distance for the inner one.

I would like to express a bit of concern regarding the use of #4 grommet, it will not be strong enough.
The load will be equal or more to the existing clew ring. Sailmakers do not use spur grommets for anything that is loaded maybe for a dingy sail or something that under 110 sf.
I would also suggest that you a add couple of additional layers at the ring itself and use webbing to attach the ring see picture provided (Fig. 13). Best and strongest for at home DIY ring installs
Do you have any 2 sided seam tape. It would be good to pin out the sail tight tape down the reef point
and even staple it to keep it from moving and getting pleats.
One last thought open up the leach and tuck the reef in then resew it will be a lot stronger.

Dave thx for the info. My main sail must be the original sail that came with the boat and the existing reef point looks like a #4 grommet with a black backing between the grommet and the sail. No extra webbing strap sewn in. Will do some more research before I do any serious damage....

Looking at your Feb 24th posting. My rudder has a definite and obvious seam down the back and front ( for and aft).
Looks like then newer boat had a design change.Also, because you have a fin keel the rudder might be longer ?

I don't think the rudder is longer as the Capri was supposed to be a one design class... I will measure the height. With a wing it might be sticking out below the keel, less protected if you hit something..... CD does not offer different length to my knowledge...Hershey said:

The C-Sprit is less expensive but it comes with a deck mounting assembly with quick releases. I will need to move the forward mooring cleats back, but that is the only modification. The Trogear standard mounting would interfere with my mooring lines. Since my boat is on a mooring (not in a slip), this is very important to me.
I just purchased the C-Sprit CS-34 (www.csprit.com) rather than the Trogear.Slartibartfass said:

Different rudders
Ruddercraft.com has 2 version rudders for the Capri 22

This rudder is also made of HDPE --- whatever that is. I guess is is some kind of plastic/polyester.
I think the ruder on my Capri is some kind of composite.

Just remember to check clearance with the bow pulpit which protrudes pretty far out and gets in the way.....JEPomer said:

Took the cover off yesterday and did some cleaning of the topside.
Too dam cold and windy today to do work on the boat....
Did a testfit for the AS-30 sprit I bought with the side mounts and had to exchange for the bigger version (AS-40). Also returned the side mounts as the range of motion was not enough to compensate for the twist and bend of the hull at the bow. Will now do a thru hull installation (yikes.... hate to bore holes into the boat) with a self made space made out of G10 board ~1-1/4" thick to support the thru hull installation tube on the two sides (outside) as well as get the necessary rubrail clearance to be able to move the sprit up in park position..... this will be exciting...... at least I am getting better at fixing gelcoat and fiberglass if I screw up.....

Cut 2 G10 3x4 inch 1" thick fiberglass board support blocks with my Festool Carvex and a metal cutting blade. Very slow cutting speed but got the job done.
Support blocks are needed for the thru hull hinge tube as the tube is sticking out 1-1/4 on both sides from the hull to give necessary clearance with the rubrail....
Will drill the 1" hole at correct angle after the tube is epoxied in....

Try using a carbide toothless jig saw blade it will cut vs. tear. You can see the blade is over heating.

Today was main sail time.
Attached the two main reefing patches and the three mid sail reefing points. Did not install the spur grommets yet in the main patches.
